Rob D’Anastasio comes to Team ABC with over 14 years of competition experience. He is a former multi-time Junior National Champion, won a Junior International Invitational, and has stood on the USAC Adult Nationals Podium as well as atop the podium at major adult events like the 2006 Teva Games for Speed Bouldering and the 2010 Pro Bouldering Open, The Dark Horse. He has competed for Team USA at the World Cup of Bouldering in Vail. In addition, he has climbed many hard boulder problems outdoors and has traveled as far as Australia and South Africa. We are excited to have Rob lending his unique perspective to the ABC Coaching Team!
I began climbing with my dad in the humble outdoor areas around Philadelphia, PA, where I was born and raised. Since that time at age 8, I quickly fell in love with the sport and the wonderful characters who too this squirrley, underage kid under their wing and off to the outdoor areas and competitions throughout the East Coast.
While completing high school I applied to only one college, the University of Colorado at Boulder. The acclaimed engineering department allowed me to put myself at the epicenter of the American climbing scene while keeping the folks at home happy as I earned a bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering. After college I returned home to become part of the family construction business, but I couldn’t stay away long from the unique climbing opportunities inherent to Boulder. Now that I’m back, it’s exciting to think that every day offers the chance to foster not only my own, but also others’ passion for this incredible sport.
